Maternity Bag Checklist – What To Pack For Labour

When the time comes to go to the hospital  or birthing center, every mom wants to be prepared. The last thing you want to worry about is whether you’ve forgotten your baby’s first outfit or the camcorder.  On your delivery day, you want  to be as stress free as possible.  We’ve got a list of essentials for you,  your labor partner, and your new baby, to make your day as smooth as possible. Print and save this list of items you don’t want to leave home without!

For Labour:

Medicare card and/or private health insurance details
Ultrasounds and your antenatal card
Your birth plan
An old nightdress or T shirt to wear in labour
Pillows, to make sure you are comfortable
Water spray to cool you down
Music to listen to – some hospitals provide CD players
Watch with a second hand to time contractions
Digital camera or camcorder
Snacks and drinks or glucose tablets
Hairband. If you have long hair, you may want to tie it up
Massage oils or lotions

 

After Birth:

Nightdress or pyjamas
Old knickers/disposable knickers
Dressing gown
Slippers
Socks
Nursing bras
Breast pads
Maternity pads
Hairbrush
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Toiletries
Arnica tablets – may help with bruising
Address book
Mobile phone and charger – prepaid phone card if the hospital will not allow mobiles in the ward
Ear plugs – in case you end up on a noisy ward
Going-home outfit

 

For Your Baby:

A pacifier – washed and sterilised
Diapers
Singlets x 3
Infant gowns x 3 (at least) – Stick with using gowns until baby’s umbilical cord stump falls off. Take some 0000 clothes and some 000, that way whatever size baby is they will have something to wear
Baby blanket
One pair of socks or booties
Hat
Jacket or snowsuit for winter
Swaddling cloth
One outfit for the trip home – stretchy onesies are easiest
Infant car seat
